The History
of the Project
|
|
1999 - 2002
- HOPES WERE HIGH… |
- The Village Hall Committee
undertook a Feasibility
Study.
- The existing
Village Hall was considered unfit and outdated
for the new millennium.
- Restoration work would
be costly and the old hall would still fall short
of modern Health & Safety requirements.
- The village gave its
clear majority support for the building
of a new Village Hall.
- Lottery
funding was sought for a new hall, together
with sports changing facilities, on the playing
fields. It was planned to sell the old hall and
subtract the proceeds from the funding application.
- Fundraising activities
began in the village and a loan was arranged.
- Outline
planning permission was obtained for the
new building.
|
2002- 2006
- HOPES WERE DASHED… |
- Unfortunately, our Lottery
application was unsuccessful. Funding for
this type of project was no longer available and
it could not proceed.
- The funds raised at
that time were placed in a specific account administered
by the Manuden Community & Sports Centre Steering
Committee in the hope that this would not be the
end of the story...
|
2006 - PRESENT – NEW
HOPE … |
- The Battlement Trust
has proposed giving the freehold of
the playing field to the village and additional land, totalling
16.8 acres.
- Four
detached, four semi-detached and a number of affordable
houses built around the perimeter of the
new, village-owned playing field will
fund the building of the hall.
