There are more than a dozen
cricketers living
in the village and playing for Manuden Cricket
Club.
This season there are at least 13 fixtures,
7 of which are "Home". But they will be played
at Rickling and elsewhere.
A dedicated cricket ground within the village
will bring great advantages.
Cricket will
return to the village. Village
supporters and spectators can, once again,
get involved.
The "square" on which each match's pitch is
marked out can be rested and worked on each
winter, so that the surface is good
for cricket.
Football over or near the square currently
makes this impossible.
There will be space for practice
nets. Coaching
for the club and for young people in the village
will be possible.
A longer fixture list will develop and school,
women's and small children's (without the hard
ball) cricket can be started.
The existence of good facilities (pitch and
pavilion) will attract interest from the many
local and City businesses which run cricket
teams in the summer for late afternoon/early
evening matches. This will earn money to help
maintenance and upkeep.
